Many questions, that so far have reached us by e-mail, have already been answered at the FAQ´s. Please make our work easier and read first through our FAQs before you write to us directly.

If you still have questions about the lease contract at the House-of-Nations, please use the given e-mail address to contact us. Please understand that the staff of our rental teams only respond to questions that are not included in the FAQs.

FAQ´s – Reservation and moving

1. How can I apply for the rental of an apartment/room?

Go to the home page and use the menu to get to “reservation request” and fill out the form step by step. With the button “send” in step 4 of the reservation request, your reservation will be sent to us.

Reservations to the 1st or the 16th of a month are possible as followed:

  • Rental from the 1st of the month: Reservation from the 4th of the month before, 03:00 p.m.
  • Rental from the 16th of the month: Reservation from the 19th of the month before, 03:00 p.m.
2. Which condition is tied to the rental of an apartment/room?

Our residences are accommodations for students, apprentices and trainees from Berlin. Therefore we need for the contract documents a certificate of the school (matriculation, apprenticeship or intership certificate).

3. Is there a minimum stay?

The minimum rental period is generally 7 months. In exceptional cases, a shorter rental period is possible, but not at the Ernst-Reuter-Haus. There the minimum rental period is 6 months.

4. How the rooms are equpped?

All our apartments have a private bathroom and a kitchenette. Residents of single rooms have to share the kitchen, shower and toilet with other residents. For specific information please consult the sub-pages to our houses.

5. On what deposit the rent and what services are included?

The monthly rent depends on size, location and equipment of the apartment/room.

The following services are included in the rent:

Electricity, Heating, Water and Linen change on a monthly basis

6. Do I make a deposit and how much is it?

Yes, the deposit is 2 months rent.

7. When deposit and the first month´s rent due?

If the reservation is accepted by us, you will receive an email with a link to pay the security deposit and the first rent.

For the transfer, the following payment methods are available:

  • Visa/Mastercard
  • Paypal
  • Direct Debit (only in connection with a domestic account)
8. Until what date may I cancel my reservation?

You may cancel your reservation free of charge until the scheduled start of your contract. In case you have already paid your deposit and rent in advance, we will refund the full amount after receiving notification of the recipient account.

Please note:  we cannot cover any transaction fees charged for the return.

FAQ´s – Rental period

1. Registration and Unsubscribing - Important note for the Berlin Notification Act!

Jeder Einwohner einer Stadt oder Gemeinde ist gesetzlich verpflichtet, sich beim zuständigen Einwohnermeldeamt – in Berlin sind dies die Bürgerämter – an- bzw. ggf. auch wieder abzumelden. Bitte melden Sie sich unbedingt innerhalb von 14 Tagen nach Ihrem Einzug beim Bürgeramt an. Wenn Sie nach Ihrem Auszug keine neue Wohnung innerhalb Deutschland beziehen, sind Sie zusätzlich verpflichtet, sich innerhalb von 2 Wochen nach dem Auszug beim Bürgeramt abzumelden.

Ab 01.11.2015 erhalten Sie hierfür von uns bei der Unterzeichnung des Mietvertrages bzw. bei Ihrem Auszug auf Wunsch auch eine Bescheinigung zur Vorlage beim Bürgeramt.

2. Where can I do my laundry?

In each of our residences, there is a laundry center with modern washing machines and dryers.

3. What other services can I use during my stay?

Information about it you can find at “Services” on our homepage.

4. When and where does the changing of bed linens take place?

These and similar information you will find in our info boxes in the lobby oft he respective building.

5. Where can I get a kitchen starter package and how much does it cost?

For tenants who do not have the possibility to bring crockery, we offer a kitchen starter package for sale. Kitchen packages are getting sold in the following properties: Brunnenstraße, Keithstraße, Ernst-Reuter-Haus, Walter-May-Haus and Hanielweg.

The kitchen starter package includes:

Cutlery set 2 pcs. each. (knife, fork, tablespoon, teaspoon), kitchen knife set, crockery set (dinner and breakfast plate), glasses set, bowl set, small and large chopping board, coffee mug set, pot set, frying pan, spatula set, box with lid, hygiene starter set

for 65,60 EUR

You can order the kitchen starter package directly from customer advisor or the property manager on site. Purchase is on account.

6. Are there parking lots?

With the exception of the student residence in the Keithstraße, all our residences have their own parking spaces. Check availability on arrival if necessary.

Residents of the building at Keithstraße in urgent needs can rent a parking space in the adjacent parking garage. If this is the case, ask to us for the contact.

7. How and on what account can I pay my rent?

You have the possibility transfer the rent to our account, to setup a standing order or to have a direct debit from your account.
As reason for payment please put your EDV-No. and tenant number to specify.

Tenants of the student residences Ernst-Reuter-Haus, Walter-May-Haus, Paul-Hertz-Haus, Keithstraße and Alfred-Jung-Straße please transfer the rent to the account of the Bürgermeister-Reuter-Stiftung.

8. When should the rent be paid?

The rental payment must be received no later than the 03 day of the month on our account.

9. What happens if I don´t have an account in Germany? How can I pay the rent?

With your cash card or credit card at administration or at the Concierge in the Ernst-Reuter-Haus. In exceptions you can pay in cash. For this please make an appointment with accounting. Soon you can pay also at the office of your customer advisor by credit card or cash card. Exception here is the Paul-Hertz-Haus.

10. Who do I turn to if I have received a reminder of payment?

11. I have a problem with my internet connection, who can I turn to?

From time to time problems occur with a slowed Internet connection. The cause of this problem is often the simultaneous use of the WLAN by several tenants. This is usually the case in the evening and on weekends.

For other problems with the Internet, first check the FAQs at www.house-of-nations.de/infopoint/form-center.

There you will find solutions to the most common problems that can occur when using a public spot. If the problems persist, please complete the checklist contained in the FAQs and the WLAN questionnaire and contact the inventory management (property manager/customer advisor).

Your request will then be forwarded to IT Support.

12. Where is he administration office? When are the office hours at administration?

13. Do I as a tenant broadcasting fees (GEZ) pay?

Wether you live on your own, in a shared flat or in a student hall – the licence fee is only paid once per residence.

14. Who do I turn to if I have a problem with my room/apartment?

Should a problem arise, like a broken refrigerator, a toilet doesn´t work or an electrical shortage, etc. please get in touch with your customer advisor or the concierge.

15. What can I do if I am not pleased with the behavior of my neighbor?

Please let us know about your troubles in writing. Give the reason for your trouble, when it has happened, your EDV number, and if applicable the name of your neighbor. And please don´t forget to give us your own information.

In the case of noise disturbance, please make a journal of it for 3-4 days with information about the disturbance.

FAQ´s – Cancellation and extract

1. Until what date may I cancel my reservation?

You may cancel your reservation free of charge until the scheduled start of your contract.

In case you have already paid your deposit and rent in advance, we will refund the full amount after receiving notification of the recipient account.

Please note: we cannot cover any transaction fees that may be charged for the return.

2. What deadline I have to keep for the termination of my rental contract?

Leases where there is no fixed end of the lease has been agreed, can usually after 6 months with a period of notice 6 weeks to 15 or at the end of the month, be terminated.

3. How can I terminate my agreement?

The termination must be in written form. You can get the cancellation from your local customer advisor, the Concierge at the Ernst-Reuter-Haus and on the >>>Infopoint_Form_center

4. What do I need to do when my move out date is coming up?

You will get an appointment from your customer advisor for the purpose of pre inspection. If you can´t make it to the appointment please contact the customer advisor immediately to make a new appointment.

5. What do I have to mind when I move out?

The apartment / room should be cleaned before being returned. The garbage should be disposed of properly.

6. When will the deposit be returned?

The deposit is not paid before the end of 9 weeks after termination of the lease to the account you specified. If you close your account in Germany, you´ll have to give us your foreign account information. We don´t pay back money in cash!
